Need some help thinking of a good school list or just tell me to not apply. I wanted to apply this upcoming cycle to 30-40 schools, but worry I won’t have enough experience.

Hispanic (Mexican-American)
1st gen
Underserved community
SoCal
3rd-year
3.94 overall, 3.98 science, 3.9 nonscience
521 MCAT
  1. Clinical Experience: EMT (500hrs), ER Volunteer (600hrs)
  2. Nonclinical Volunteering: K-6 Tutor/Mentor (350hrs, anticipate another 350hrs next year), numerous community events around my hometown, (150hrs, anticipate another 150hrs next year), little league coach (230hrs)
  3. Research: 1 lab, 600hrs, and will get around the same next year, 1 grant for my current independent project, wrote my proposal and I present after applications
  4. Shadowing: 25hrs for 1 physician, 50hrs eShadowing
  5. Random: Apart of a community service club, editing videos of gaming moments since high school, love video games and earned some money from tournaments, been lifting since middle school
I have called and emailed like 30 doctor’s offices for shadowing and no response or declines.

Have you networked with any Hispanic medical associations or student leaders with LMSA at the schools you are most interested in? Have you gone to free clinics where medical students and residents rotate or work to ask for help? I would be shocked if no one helped you, especially if your stats are accurate.

One of my favorite groups is the MiMentor team which records webinars and posts them on YouTube. Seriously subscribe to MiMentor.org including all of their social media accounts.

This is the first I heard of LMSA, so that's something Ima look into. As for free clinics, the only ones near me are affiliated with a club at my school so you have to be a member of it to connect with anyone there. I was rejected each time I applied cause they're known for only accepting people they know. Then again, I could just be coping. I'll look into MiMentor though. Thank you for the help.
