Seriously? That sounds like a horrific position. Even if it did offer a track into residency, it's at Maimonides, and lets just say that's been on the avoid list for years.

Are my sources that far off base? Would appreciate some input on this matter from anyone reading.

Avoid this one like the plague.

As far as the residency program is concerned it is actually much improved and a good program. It may have a poor reputation from times past, but the current administration has done a lot to improve the program and it now has a very good reputation (see the most recent posts on scutwork.com from residents). I believe they had about 17 presentations at last yr's ASA and the program received a very positive review by the ACGME as well (this yr it got a four year accreditation which is better than SUNY Downstate, Upstate, Stony Brook etc)... Current CA-3s have placed into good fellowships (including Mass General for Cardiac, University of Pittsburg for Pediatrics, and Colorado for Pediatrics etc.). For anyone considering programs in NY I would look seriously at this program.

The job- This is an important entry into the system. Even unaccredited, it still provides a resident's salary and gives you a year's worth of experience that can be an asset on a resume.
