I am a 3rd year DO student who have been considering EM/IM for a while. However, I am doing my Peds rotation now, and have come to the conclusion that I not only like Peds more than I thought, but also that I don't like EM as much as I thought as well. Also my ultimate goal is to do cardiology, and I think that med-peds would serve me better. My question is that I don't know how competitive I am, considering that I had to retake my step 1 numerous times and upon passing, I barely passed.
At this point I don't know if I should buckle down and study for USMLE 1, which I had already planned on taking because I was interested in EM/IM, or if I should just concentrate on step 2.
For a better picture of myself, my class rank is a bit to be desired, I have good extracurricular activities, leadership activities, and a couple of masters degree's.
Any imput would be appreciated. Thanks!
