Hi all, current army MS4 in limbo until intern year starts. Didn't match into what I wanted so I'm doing a TY. I'm pretty open-minded and considering a military career, so a GMO tour doesn't seem like a setback in my mind. In fact, being a flight surgeon sounds cool, but I don't know much about it other than "you're basically a primary care doc for pilots." I have a few things on my mind:
1) How does getting a GMO assignment work, and when does it happen? Does the timeline coincide with residency applications? Do you rank certain assignments?
2) I haven't heard of any GMO jobs in the army other than battalion surgeon and flight surgeon. Any others to be aware of?
3) What's a day in the life like for an army GMO? Flight surgeon vs battalion surgeon?
4) Those who have been an army GMO, what did you like/dislike about it?
Thanks in advance.
