So, say for instance that my school's average raw score given by the NBME for a subject exam, say pathology is 72. What does this correspond to in terms of a 3 digit score. You know how 500 is the mean for subject shelf exams...does this correspond to 70?

Can people please tell me their raw scores in pathology and their 3-digit scores?

I'm trying to figure out my 3 digit score...I only have the 2-digit raw score! Thanks a bunch!

average = 80 = 500

I don't think that's right. Is this after your school modified it by adding 10? I think that 500 corresponds to 70 and that the std deviation of 100 for the former scale corresponds to 8 for the latter. My school's average was 72. There is no way that the average would be that far below 500. I think our average corresponds to 520.

no prob, i appreciate the response.

i'm trying to basically construct the scale system by collecting data from kids that know both their raw 2 and 3 digit scores...i.e. 70 and 500...if this is correct!

How did you get your score already? I haven't gotten an email and it isn't online yet.

I copied this from my old micro shelf results:

Your Shelf exam score is provided as a three digit number based on a distribution around a mean of 500, with a standard deviation of 100. This distribution is based on the results obtained from over 4000 examinees nationwide. The NBME also provides us with a table to convert the three digit score to percentage of questions answered correctly. It is this percentage that will be weighted and figured into your course cumulative score and will be distributed with your Shelf exam score.

The range of your class performance was from 280 to 830! Your class mean score was 540 which places you nicely above the national mean! For comparison of your score with all others who have taken the test, you can refer to this percentile ranking chart. .Locate your score and note the entry in the adjacent column that is "Percentile". For example, if a student's score is 500, the corresponding percentile entry of 53 indicates that 53% of the national group of students taking the Microbiology and Immunology Subject Examination as a final course exam are projected to have scores at or below 500..

<<I couldn't fix the spacing here, but read it like 6 columns across, 510-740 on the left half and 280-500 on the right. So, a score of 730 was in the 98th percentile with 87.2% correct>>
